Bias
A preference or inclination that inhibits a person from making an impartial judgement.
What does it mean to view history as an argument?
Viewing history as an argument means seeing pieces of information as someone trying to convince others that their description of events should be believed. In history, events can be described differently because of bias, perspective…etc.
After reading about a time period/event from different sources, it’s up to you to take the knowledge and information to decide what you think is the most accurate description of the event.
How can there be bias in both primary and secondary sources?
Primary - The author/creator could be trying to justify an action or sway an opinion. He/she could also be influenced by political, social, cultural, or personal beliefs.
Secondary - The information could be biased based on where the author/creator got their information (Ex. they could have used a biased primary source)
The author could also have personal thoughts about the event.
