Reliability
How trustworthy, accurate or correct a source is
- bias
- few limitations
- if credible source is listed
- determine if it is true / accurate
- if a source is supported by others
- if there are contradictions
Usefulness
How valuable or helpful a source is
- provides facts and ideas [ie, names, dates, etc]
- provides information
[on attitudes, motivations, influences, responses, causes, consequences, historical relationships, perspectives]
Perspective
Point of view on a particular matter.
Age, gender, social position, ethnicity, values, beliefs, attitudes are factors which can influence an opinion.
- can change over time
- depends on period of time as to how it can be interpreted
Change
= an alteration
= a progression or decline
It can be rapid, slow, gradual…
consider; the extent (ie, widespread)
- level of impact
- duration, short/long-term
Continuity
What might an unreliable source look like?
- lacking information
- bias, created for a specific audience
- one-sided perspective
- false details
- outdated
What might an inaccurate source look like?
(accurate = falls under reliability)
- corroboration; facts do not align with other supporting sources
- think about the author
- has it been peer-reviewed?
- narrow perspective
What might make a source useful?
- account of what happened in an event / issue
- provides facts and ideas
- gives information on attitudes
- if it is helpful for research, etc
- if it indicates something
