History of the Atomic Model Flashcards
What was Democritus’s atomic model?
That atoms are indivisible spheres that have void between them, also that they are all different
What was Dalton’s atomic model?
The same as that of Democritus, just that those of the same element are identical
What was J.J. Thompson’s atomic model?
The ‘plum pudding’ model, the matter of the atom itself is positively charged, but it has electrons scattered throughout
What was Rutherford’s atomic model?
He chucked particles at an atom, and found out there is a positively charged nucleus and mostly empty space around it
What was Bohr’s atomic model?
The Bohr model (the one we are studying). Electrons move around the nucleus in fixed sizes and energies
