1943 Tehran Conference
First time the Big Three met in person, planned to open second front in France to take back France from Nazi Germany and to ease pressure on the eastern front. UK and US confirmed they would invade France by May 1944, USSR promised to help UK and US with war against japan after Nazi Germany was defeated.
1945 Yalta Conference
To plan what would happen after the war even though it was still ongoing at the point of the conference. Germany was to be split into 4 zones of occupation, Free elections for new governments in previously occupied eastern European countries, The United Nations would replace the failed LoN

August 1945 Potsdam Conference
More decisions made about post war Europe, The new boundaries of Poland were agreed, The allies decided to divide Germany and Berlin between them, Agreed to legal trials at Nuremburg of Nazi Leader for war crimes
1945 Atomic Bomb Drop
US drops two atomic bombs on Japan, Hiroshima (August 6th) and Nagasaki (9 August)
1945 United Nations
The United Nations formed and LoN replaced by it - 24th October
1946 - The Long Telegram
Written by Official at US Embassy George Kennan, it short it said that the USSR was heavily armed and feared the outside world, it was determined to spread communism and so no peaceful co-existence could be had, However the US was stronger than the USSR so communism could be cointained
1946 - The Novikov Telegram
Written by the Soviet ambassador of the US, Nikolai Novikov. He warned the US had come out of WWII economically strong and bent of world domination and so the USSR should secure its buffer zone in eastern Europe
1946 Iron Curtain
In March 5th Winston Churchill condemned the USSR in his speech and sed ‘an iron curtain has descended across the continent’. He meant that the Allies fought for 6 years for freedom from fascism to have half the continent covered by soviet dictatorship
1947 Truman Doctrine
the principle that the US should give support to countries or peoples threatened by Soviet forces or Communist insurrection
1947 The Marshall Plan
a U.S.-sponsored program designed to rehabilitate the economies of 17 western and southern European countries in order to create stable conditions in which democratic institutions could survive in the aftermath of World War II. It was formally called the European Recovery Program.
1947 Cominform
An organisation to coordinate actions between the various communist parties under soviet direction. An attempt to prevent some eastern European countries from joining the Marshall plan
1948 Zones of Germany
The UK, France and USA unite their zones of control in Germany. Both Germany and Berlin are now split into two sides, EAST vs WEST
1948 The berlin blockade
Stalin opposed the combining of the western parts of berlin and stalin wanted to keep germany weak so he blockaded Berlin, he ordered that all land communication between western berlin and the outside be cut off
