An extreme nationalist who knew how political parties could effectively use propaganda and terror.

German Workers Party. ( one of many right-wing extreme nationalists in Munich)
What did Hitler take control of and what was it renamed?
He had taken control of the party and renamed it the National Socialist Germans Workers Party (Nazi)
Why was Hitler sent to prison?
He staged an armed uprising against the government in Munich and failed.
What is Mein Kampf ?
The account of his movement and it’s basic ideas.
What were the basic ideals of Mein Kampf?
Extreme German nationalism, strong anti-semitism, and anti communism together by a Social Darwianian theory of struggle.
What was the theory of struggle?
Emphasizes the right of superior nations to the living space through expansion. It upholds the rights of superior individuals over the masses.
How did Hitler think Nazi had to obtain power by?
Legally through elections, not by violent overthrow of the Weimar Republic.

Expanded the Nazi Party

When two-thirds of the Reichstag passed the Enabling Act.
What did this act give the government power to do?
To ignore the constitution for 4 years while it issued laws to deal with the country’s problems.

A legal basis.
How was Hitler able to become a dictator?
When he got a legal basis he no longer needed Reichstag or Hindenburg and so he became dictator appointed by the parliamentary body itself.
What did Nazi do with their new power?
Brought all institutions under their control.
What did the Nazi’s purge?
Civil service of democratic elements and of Jews who were blamed for Germany’s bad economy.
What are concentration camps?
Camp of prisoners usually from war, political leaders, etc.. under harsh conditions. But in Germany it was just for jews and those who opposed them.
