A

The election of 1876was one of the most hostile elections. Some still wanted to still reconstruct the South, and the Republicans were being corrupt. During this time America was 3 years into a recession. Republicans blamed democrats for the civil war.
The compromise of 1877 the democrats are free from republican oppression and can govern themselves in the south, but Hayes the Republican gets to be in the Whitehouse.

A

Tammany Hall might be one of the first case of organized crime. Boss Sweed was in charge of it, he put in grants for things like school, bridges, asylums, and Tammany hall. He lied, none of these things actually existed he just wanted money. By the time the scam over they were 36 million dollars in debt.
