What is the bird fed? Does it eat it all?

What material is used to make the cage? (Lead or zinc)
Substrate being used?
How often is it cleaned?
Any outdoor time?
What is important to know about a bird’s enclosure?
Is it made of zinc or lead
What are you looking for when examining a bird’s eye?
Discharge, lens opacity, blood, any disruption of normal anatomy
What are you looking for when examining a bird’s nares?
Symmetry, discharge, swelling or bruising
How do you assess a bird’s hydration?
Moisture of the cornea
Position of globe (sunken=dehydration)
Why is it important to palpate the crop of a bird?
Check for foreign objects, crop burns, stasis, or distension
How do you evaluate joint function in avians?
Gently extend wings and legs
What disease can be caused by vitamin a deficiency in birds?
Bumblefoot
If a bird’s feet is showing signs of erosion, what are we concerned about?
Vitamin A deficiency

Masses, irritation, prolapse, matted fecal matter
