WHO IS TO BLAME?
Who is most to blame for the atrocities committed by the Third Reich?
Adolf Hitler?
Heinrich Himmler? (leader of the SS)
SS guards at prison camps
The German people as a whole?
Leaders who determined what would be done ( torture and extermination of millions of
people)?
Individuals who found ways to make sure it could happen?
WHO IS THE MONSTER?
Over the course of time, there were 50,000
Nazi concentration camp guards
6 million Jews killed (keep in mind, Jews
were not the only ones killed by Nazis)
If murders by guards were divided evenly
(they weren’t, but for the sake of
argument), that’s about 120 murders per
guard

Responsibilities as a leader in the SS:
Identify Jews
Assemble them
Transport them efficiently to their final
destination
