Who was Henry Ford and what did he do?
Creator of Ford Industries, introduced mass production and the production line
What is the Cycle of Prosperity?
The more products sold, the more the workers earn and the more the workers earn, the more products they could buy
What were the 6 Alphabet Agencies?
(FERA) Federal Emergency Relief Administration (AAA) Agricultural Adjustment Act (NRA) National Recovery Administration (PWA) Public Works Administration (CCC) Civilian Conservation Corps (TVA) Tennessee Valley Authority
What did the Federal Emergency Relief Administration do?
The FERA helped the poor in ways such as clothing grants and soup kitchens
What did the Agricultural Adjustment Act do?
The AAA tried to help farmers by controlling production and prices in attempt to fix the overproduction that had crippled American farmers
What did the National Recovery Administration do?
The NRA Tried to help out workers by increasing wages and improving hours and conditions
What did the Public Works Administration do?
The PWA created jobs by paying unemployed people to build schools bridges and dams.
What did the Civilian Conservation Corps. do?
The CCC provided jobs through schemes that weren’t really necessary in an attempt to stimulate the economy.
What did the Tennessee Valley Authority do?
The TVA brought power to 7 states in the Tennessee valley. Dams and power plants were built, creating many jobs
Why didn’t farmers benefit from the boom?
- Technology
- Europe —> Overproduction
- Price crash
Why didn’t “old workers” benefit from the boom?
- Automation
- Replaced by unskilled labourers
Why didn’t blacks benefit from the boom?
- Sharecroppers
- Same problems as farmers
- Didn’t benefit from farmer’s land sale
What problems did Roosevelt’s New Deal face?
- Designed to intervene —> Republicans “Unconstitutional”
- Communists —> “Dictatorship”
- Big difference from Laissez Faire
