Grand - evidence, investigation, indite.
Petite - decides guilt or innocence
How did parliament grow in strength?
The war of the Roses was the turning point as Henry Tuder won against King Richard. This resulted in the Tuders managing parliament. Because the King needed money, he allowed Parliament a say in favor political power. When Charles 1st came to power he went on to dictate, raising money illegally. Parliament forced him to sign a petition of Writ, to stop the illegal activity. A civil war broke out between the Cavaliers, supporting the king and the Round heads, who supported parliament. Oliver, leader of the round heads won the war and put King Charles on trial resulting in his be heading. Monarchy was over at this point and England became a common wealth.
What three things did Habiaus Corpus guarantee?
1) An arrested person may get a writ from a judge
2) The writ entitled you to a statement of charges and what evidence they have against you
3) Release on bail and a speedy jury trial
