Why did Australia federate?
A
Each colony had its own government and laws which caused many problems so people started thinking it would be most beneficial to unite as one nation.

What were the reasons as to why Australia was colonized?
A
Britain needed new space for their prisoners, new source of income and hoped the new colony would provide a good return investment. The convicts provided cheap labor to build a new colony.
