What were the four belief systems/religions in China?

What is Buddhism?
Buddhism focuses on the four noble truths and finding your nirvana state after you die. It focuses on getting rid of selfishness and greed which will worsen your life.
What is Meritocracy?
A form of government where people are chosen based on their knowledge rather than their wealth or social class.
What is the Grand Canal?
A water way allowing for easy transport for goods and trade. It connected the Huang He and Yellow River.
What is Confucianism?
Confucianism focuses on having strong relationships, and that all will be well if these relationships are strong
What is Daoism?
A religion that focuses on living simply and in harmony with nature and knowing that there will always be good and bad.
What is Aristocracy?
A political system in which wealthy/powerful people rule
What is civil service?
A group of people employed in administration of government
What is Legalism
Legalists believed that a ruler should govern his subjects by social rank, a strong hand, and position, not by the emperor’s morals.

Compare and contrast the different characteristics of the four belief systems and how each attempted to restore peace and order in society.
Daoism: Looked to nature to find peace and harmony. Acknowledging that there will always be good and bad but finding a way to balance it
Buddhism: Knowing the four noble truths. Finding nirvana. Following the middle path. Getting rid of selfishness, greed, jealousy, etc.
Confucianism: having strong relationships. Five key relationships. If you live according to virtues then all will be well.
Legalism: Law code is clear and public. All people under ruler are equal before law. Laws should reward and punish. System of law runs the state not the ruler. Mortality is not important. Strong hand is needed. Position of ruler, not the ruler himself, holds the power.
