What is a progressive interpretation?
1920’s- A time of vigorous economic growth
-Claimed that the war was caused by a contest between plantation agriculture and industrialising capitalism.
-Economic issues divided regions.
What is a revisionist interpretation?
1940’s- World war II cause by lack of compromise
-The war was brought on by extremists on both sides
-The lack of compromise worsened a pre-established tension.
What is a post modern view?
Present time- Hindsight and information
-Slavery was the main cause
What is a 1960’s interpretation?
Slavery- Civil rights movement and Martin Luther King.
What is a contemporary interpretation?
Northerners- Slavery
Southerners- Northern aggression
