Q

How did the Paris peace conference play a role in the formation of the League of Nations? First Reason

A

One reason why the Paris peace conference played a role in the formation of the League of Nations was that it was based on Wilson. The main aims for the League of Nations stemmed from his points, one of the points being disarmament. However, all of the points were not very specific and were encouraged or discouraged. Wilson wanted a world Parliament were representatives from all of the countries.

Q

How did the Paris peace conference play a role in the formation of the League of Nations? Second reason.

A

Another reason why the Paris peace conference played a role in the formation of the League of Nations was that the countries involved were a part of the conference. After the first world war, all the countries that had helped the Allies were gathered in the League of Nations. Countries would sign a covenant if they wanted to, the losers were forced to sign the covenant. The Allies were the first people to be a part of the League The USSR was not invited and Germany was not invited. Wilson wanted it to be a world parliament and everyone would have a seat in parliament. Every country would have a vote about things that mattered to them all.

Q

How would the League work?

A

The pinnacle of that goal would be governed by a world government, making things fair for everyone. Everyone had to follow the rules and would be punished for doing things wrong. The war was so dismal and horrific that people wanted to be optimistic and hope for a better future. All the major nations agreed to join the league of nations and they also all agreed that they would disarm. Not right away but slowly. If a country broke the law then all the countries would stop trading with them. In the end, going to war.

Q

How would it be likely to not fail?

A

In 1918 it was a very popular idea. People had a very different idea of what war was, they thought it was romantic. However, WW1 was not like that. Not a glorious campaign. People believed that the world was going to be a better place and that there was going to be a wave of democracy across the world. The war was so dismal and horrific that people wanted to be optimistic and hope for a better future.

Q

Overview of the Leagues success and failures

A

The failure of the planned methods of preventing aggression, collective security, and the three steps that the Council would take to stop aggression. The reason that it failed was that the steps were hard to enforce and people wanted to do whatever they wanted. Especially if one country had exactly what another wanted or they were part of the ‘Bullies’. The League failed to stop the invasion of Manchuria in 1931 and Italy’s invasion of Abyssinia in 1935.

Before the depression in the 1930s, the League was successful in handling humanitarian aspects of the League as well as finances and small disputes between countries. The humanitarian agencies of the League helped the poor, sick, and homeless people. Its financial agencies helped restore finances after the war. As well as when it came to international disputes the League handled 66 of them and was successful in half of them.

It failed when it came to members, Germany, Russia, and the USA were not even a part of the League. The reason this had such an impact on the League was that they could have used members. The more members the League had the more control they had over the world. It also looked really bad when one of the founders of the League of Nations was not even a part of it. That, in particular, made France and Britain resentful because it looked like the USA just dumped all the work onto them.
