histone modifications Flashcards

1

Q

how do diseases involving genomic imprinted genes occur?

A

segment containing the gene is deleted + the other copy is silenced -> important genes not expressed -> no active copies of the gene

Q

what is X-chromosome inactivation?

A

one of the two x chromosomes is randomly and permanently inactivated in cells other than egg cells
ensures only one functional copy of x chr, like in males

Q

what is ChIP-seq?

A

chromatin immunoprecipitation sequencing:
some DNAs have protein bound to it. specific antibodies bind to the protein and is immunoprecipitated. bound DNA is coprecipitated, purified and sequenced

identifies genome-wide DNA binding sites for transcription factors and other proteins
