Histomorphology Flashcards
1
Q
histological techniques
A
- tissue collection
- fixation
- dehydration
- cleaning
- embedding
- cutting
- staining
2
Q
tissue fixation
A
preserving cells and tissue in a “life-like-state”
DO NOT let samples DRY during preparation
3
Q
what are the stages of tissue processing/
A
- dehydration
- clearing
- embedding
4
Q
dehydration
A
Remove fixative and water from the tissue and replace them with dehydrating fluid.
5
Q
clearing
A
to replace the dehydrating fluid with a fluid that will hold both dehydrating fluid and medium together
6
Q
embedding
A
tissues are surrounded by a
medium such as agar, gelatin, or wax which when solidified will
provide sufficient external support during sectioning.
7
Q
tissue processing
A
- start fixation as soon as possible
- cut with sharp knife
- do not dry
- prevent osmotic damage
- removes excess blood, mucosa, etc…
