Histology Of The Nerve Cell Flashcards
Dendrites
Tree like branches that bring information into the nerve cell body
Nerve cell body is found where?
Spinal cord
Single myelinated axon
Carries motor impulses away from the Nerve cell body to the skeletal muscle.
Mode of transmission
Arriving (afferent) messages are carried by the dendrites.
Exiting (efferent) message are transmitted by the axon
Nissle substance is….
Densely concentrated rough endoplasmic reticulum found in the nerve cell cytoplasm, Dendritic branches and axon.
Axon hillock
Clear initial region in between nissl substance
Myelin sheath
Surround the axon produced by Schwann cells.
Composed of phospholipids in the cytoplasm of the Schwann cells.
Nodes of Ranvier
Small gaps in the Myelin present between adjacent Schwann cells.
Increase the speed of nerve impulses.
Saltatory conduction
Mechanism practiced by nodes of Ranvier to increase speed of nerve impulses.
Layers of peripheral nerve
Endoneurium
Perineurium
Epineurium
Comparable to the connective tissue layers associated with the skeletal fibers.
Endoneurium
Innermost layer of peripheral nerve composed of delicate fibers that surround individual axons.
Perineurium
Layer of peripheral nerve that Encloses bundled of axons.
Epineurium
Outermost layer of peripheral nerve that is composed of tough fibrous sheath around the entire peripheral nerve.
