histology of respiratory Flashcards
trachea
20 c shaped cartilage rings, gaps between rings are filled by muscle and fibroelastic tissue
submucosal and mucosa are adapted to moisten and warm the environment
describe mucosa
cilated pseudostratified columnar epithelium with goblet and basal cells
describe submucosa
mixed sero-mucus glands and traps particles from air moving along Respiratory tract and has goblet cells to stop bacteria getting into the lungs
adventitia
connects surrounding tissue to trachea, contains nerves, vessels and adipose tissue
describe bronchi
2 primary bronchi which split into secondary and tertiary. discs of cartilage
describe bronchioles
no cartilage or glands. decrease in height until they become simple columnar Bronchioles possess cells that secrete a substance which makes surfactant. These cells
are known as Clara (Club) cells
