Whatis a primordial follicle?
Primary oocyte surrounded by connective tissue follicular cells
What is the primary follicle? When in a females life does it happen?
onset of puberty, follicular cells become CUBOIDAL (now called GRANULOSA CELLS) Zona pellucida forms
What is the secondary follicle?
stage after primary follicle where INTERcellular spaces fill with fluid, making a large single fluid filled antrum
Mature Graffian follicle
oocyte surrounded by zonapellucida and granulosa cells called corona radiata
At about 36 hours prior to ovulation high levels of hormones stimulate a surge, what does this do?
It induces completion of FIRST MEIOTIC diision, this leaves a 1st polar body and the secondary oocyte. Meiosis II will start but it will be halted until a sperm may fertilize it
