Histology - Muscle Tissue Flashcards
1
Q
Muscle Tissue
A
Contracts to produce movement
3 Types: skeletal, smooth, cardiac
2
Q
Skeletal Muscle
A
Description:
Cells = long and tubular, multi-nucleated
Nuclei = peripheral
Tissue = striated due to alternating pattern of light and dark fibers
Function: voluntary control and somatic innervention
Location: muscles of the skeleton
3
Q
Smooth Muscle
A
Description:
Spindle shaped cells that are uni-nucleated
Nuclei = centrally located
No fibers in tissue
Function: involuntary control and autonomic innervation
Location: glands (sweat, salivary), walls of organs (stomach, bladder)
