What is contained in the portal tract/triad of the liver?
Portal vein
Hepatic artery
Bile duct
Lymphatic vessels
Rank the structures of the portal tract from largest to smallest
Size is in terms of the lumen:
Largest - portal vein
Bile duct
Smallest - hepatic artery
How can you recognise the bile duct?
Has a cuboidal epithelium surrounding it
How can you recognise the hepatic artery?
There is muscle within the vessel wall
How can you recognise the portal vein?
Wide lumen and thin wall
What is indicated by the presence of nodules on the liver?
Small regenerative nodules are indicative of cirrhosis
What is indicated by the presence of green nodules on the liver?
If the nodules are green then as well as cirrhosis, there is also bile stasis
