Histology Flashcards
1
Q
What are the main components of the extracellular matrix in cartilage?
A
- Fibbers: type II collagen in hyaline cartilage and elastic fibbers in elastic cartilage.
- Amorphous ground substance: Proteoglycans such as chondroitin SO4 (50% sugar and 50% protein) and glycoproteins (10% sugars and 90% protein)

Name 1 and 2?
A
- Hyaline cartilage
- Elastic cartilage
3
Q
What are the major cell types involved in the formation of bone?
A
- Osteocyte: major cell type of mature bone derived from osteoblasts
- Osteoblasts: synthesize the organic components of the extracellular matrix:
- Collagen type 1 fibbers
- Amorphous groupnd substance: proteoglycans and glycoprotein
- Minerals: crystals of hydroxyapatite Ca10(PO4)(OH)2
- Osteoclasts are multinucleated giant cells involved in the resorption and remodeling of bone tissue
