Histology Flashcards
what tissue is the shape of cells in simple squamous epithelium?
single layer , flat irregular shape similar to “fried egg”
how many layers are in simple squamous epithelium?
1 layer
in What tissue do: Alevoli (air sacs) in lungs exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide between between the blood and inhaled air.
Simple squamous epithelium
which tissue lines the tubules of the kidneys for absorption and also aides in re absorption of nutrients
simple cuboidal epithelium
what is the shape of simple cuboidal epithelium
cube like shape are as tall as they are wide
how many layers are there in simple cuboidal epithelium?
1 layer
shape of simple columnar epithelium?
column like shaped , taller then they are wide
how many layers are in simple columnar epithelium >
one
what is the function of simple columnar epithelium in the lining lumen of stomach and intestines ?
they help with secretion and absorption, also goblet cells release a mucin to aid in this process
shape of Ciliated Psuedostratified columnar epithelium
Column shaped with hair like structure around the cell
how many layers does ciliated psudeostratifed columnar epithelium have?
1 layer
why is tissue psuedostratified named this?
named because at first glance it looks like it has multiple layers but it only has one layer that is attached to the basement layer
what is the function of Ciliated Psuedostratified Epithelium in the bronchi and trachea?
the Cilia help propel dust particles and foreign materials away from the lungs, and nasal cavity and help move stuff through the trachea
how many layers does Stratified squamous epithelium
multiple
what is the shape of stratified squamous epithelium
basale layer is shaped cuboidal the apical layer is flattened and irregular
What is the shape of transitional epithelium
varies on appearance depending if its stretched or relaxed the basale layer will appear to be cuboidal, when stretched the apical layer will look more squamous
why is it important that transitional epithelium stretch?
because this tissue is usually lining urinary bladder and ureters it is important that it stretches to prevent the toxins from urine to seep put into the body and other tissues and organs
What are the different cell types that can be found in connective tissue
Fibroblasts ( in most connective tissue) Chondrocytes ( cartilage) Osteocytes ( in bone) Adipocytes ( adi[ose tissue) Reticulocytes (Reticular tissue)
What are the different types of fiber?
Collagen: Thick fibers which provide tensile strength
Elastic: Fibers which have the ability to stretch and recoil
Reticular
; short branching fibers which provide a supportive framework (stroma) for other cell types
Name the cell that is found in Adipose connective Tissue
Adipocytes
What is stored in Adipocytes
Fat
What is the function of adipose connective tissue in the hypodermis?
it acts as an insulator to slow heat loss through skin
What cells are found in Arreolar connective tissue ?
Fibroblasts
What are the fibers present n Arreolar connective tissue?
elastic fibers and collagen fibers (minimal amount), they are arranged randomly
