Histology Flashcards
6 histological layers of the gut tube from inner to outer?
- Epithelium
- Lamina propria
- Mucularis mucosa
- Sub mucosa
- Muscularis Externa
- Serosa adventitia
2 Plexi of the enteric nervous sytstem, what layer they are located in and their functions?
Submucosal plexi: Submucosa, glandular secretion and blood flow
Myenteric plexi: Mucularis externa: Peristalsis
Three layers of muscle in the stomach?
Inner oblique
Middle circular
Outer longitudinal
Two types of cell you are likely to see in the stomach? Their function?
How do you distinguish them?
Parietal cells - Secrete HCl, bright pink, egg like
Chief Cell - Secretes pepsinogen, darker purple cells
Type of mucosa in the oesophagus?
Stratified squamous with mucous glands
Type of mucosa in the stomach?
Specialised glandular epithelium
Type of mucosa in the small intestine?
Columnar epithelium, with lots of microvilli
Type of epithelium in the large intestine?
Columnar with a few microvilli and lots of mucus secretion
Type of epithelium in the anal canal?
Stratified squamous with mucous glands
Three types of secretion of exocrine glands?
Merocrine: secrete via exocytosis
Holocrine: Entire cell ‘self-combusts’
Apocrine: A portion of plasma buds off from the cell containing the secretion
Types of secretory unit of exocrine glands?
Tubular
Acinar
Tubulo-acinar
