they are ductless

What is the blood supply to the anterior pituitary known as?
the hypophyseal portal system
what type of tissue is the posterior pituitary made of?
nervous tissue
composed of non myelinated axons
what does the antidiuretic hormone do?
absorbs water stops you going to the toilet every few minutes!
the paraventricular nucleus secetes what?
oxytocin
why is oxytocin needed?
needed during labour and lactation
It stimulates smooth muscle contractions of the uterus during orgasm and in labour
what are the ‘bodies’ in the posterior pituitary?
Hering bodies
they store hormones
What is the thyroid gland important for?
metabolism
What are the functional units in the thyroid gland?
thyroid follicles
where is the thyroid gland located?
the lower part of the neck
what is the thyroid gland enveloped by?
a fibrous capsule
