Histology Flashcards
how do cells comunicate?
gap junctions
What are the different types of secretions?
autocrine secretion(secretes by itself)
paracrine(stimulates the one beside it)
endocrine(uses circulation to take secreted hormones to peripheral tissues)
synaptic(uses nerve ends)
What are hormones made of?
fatty acid/ steroid derivatives (cholesterol compounds)
Proteins/peptides
aminoacid derivatives
What are the cholesterol derived hormones secreted by?
adrenal cortex,ovaries and testes
What are the protein/peptide derived hormones secreted by?
hypothalamus
pituitary gland
pancreas
enteroendocrine cells
What are the amino acid derived hormones secreted by?
adrenal medulla and nuerons
What are the divisions of the pituitary gland?
adenohypophysis(anterior lobe)
neurohypophysis(posterior lobe)
Subdivisions of Adenohypophysis?
pars distalis
pars tuberalis
pars intermedia
Subdivisions of neurohypophysis?
pars nervosa
infundibular stalk/stem
median eminence
What does the Adenohypophysis do vs what the neurohypophysis?
adeno= secretes hormones
neuro=save up the hormones that were produced by the hypothalamus
Neurohypophysis contains axons that extend from?
Hypothalamus passing infundibulum stalk into the posterior lobe. Hypothalamus nuclei that extend the axons are paraventricular and supraoptic nuclei
Supraoptic nuclei produces which hormone?
ADH
Paraventricular nuclei produces which hormone?
oxytocin
Anterior lobe is composed of what epithelium?
glandular epithelium
Posterior lobe is composed of what?
nervous tissue
