Histology Flashcards
Tissues
Explain the term histology
Histology is the study of the microscopic structures of the tissues/ that are found on the tissues. It is te study of these structures’ form as seen under the microscope
Explain the term epithelium
Epithelium refers to the layer of cells that line hallow organs and glands. It is also cells that make up the outside of the body.
What are the four types of tissues?
- Connective tissue
- Epithelial tissue
- Neevous tissue
- Muscle tissue
What is the first layer of the skin called?
The first layer of the skin is the epidermis
What is the first layer of the skin called?
The first layer of the skin is the epidermis
What is the second layer of the skin called?
The second layer of the skin is the dermis
What is the third layer of the skin called?
The third layer is the hypodermis/subcutis
The skin is part of the __________ system
The skin is part of the integumentary system
What makes the epidermis an example of epithelium ithelium ?
Cellularity Polarity Attachment Avascularity-lack of blood vessels Restricted thickness Regeneration - high rate of cell division
What makes the epidermis an example of epithelium ithelium ?

What is the equation for the formation of melanin
Tyrosine➡️Dopaquinone➡️Melanin
Which enzyme controls melanin production in melanocytes?
Melanin production in human melanocytes is controlled by the rate limiting enzyme for melanin synthesis, TYROSINASE
What’s the difference between pheomelanin and eumelanin
Pheomelanin is the red/yellow type of melanin WHILE eumelanin is the brown/black type
What are the end results of meosis and mitosis ?
The end result of mitosis are daughter cells that are genetically identical to parent cell and are diploid
Meosis results in daughter cells that vary genetically and are haploid
