Histo Images noted by Gianani - SRS Flashcards
What is shown in this finding?
Molluscum Contagiosum
Your patient presents with the attached lesions, which are painless. What is the morphology of the causative organism?
Gram negative spirochete - Treponema pallidum
A 62 y/o woman comes in with white plaques and macules in her GU tract, which you biopsy and obtain the attached image.
What does this patient have?
Lichen Sclerosis, note the…
- marked thinning of the epidermis
- excessive keratinization
- sclerotic changes of the superficial dermis
- bandlike lymphocytic infiltrate in the underlying dermis
Based solely on the image shown, identify the disease process.
Keratinizing Squamous cell Carcinoma of the Vulva.
- note the prominent keratin pearl formation and central whorls of keratinization
What is this?
What is it composed of?
Sarcoma botryoides - grow as polypoid, bulky, rounded masses with a grape cluster appearance/consitency.
- composed of malignant embryonal rhabdomyoblasts
Identify this cervical lesion
Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Cervix - Invasive
Identify the cervical lesion depicted here.
Adenocarcinoma of the cervix
Identify this lesion.
What is a possible consequence of this?
Endometriotic ovarian cyst
D/t scarring can see infertility
What is this ovarian tumor?
Mucinous ovarian tumor
Identify the shown images of ovarian tumors A-D.
Note the salient histological findings.
A. Serous cystadenoma with stromal papillae and columnar epithelium
B. Borderline serous tumor with increased architectural complexity and epithelial cell stratification
C. Low grade “micropapillary” serous carcinoma - complex micropapillary growth
D. High grade serous carcinoma of the ovary with invasion of underlying stroma
What type of ovarian tumor is shown here?
What would the gross findings include?
- Benign cystic teratoma - note the presence of skin on the right, and the presence of brain tissue at the left edge.
- Mature cystic teratomas may include hair, skin, teeth, brain tissue, etc.
Based on the histology, and the strong immunohistochem stain for inhibin, what type of ovarian mass did this biopsy come from?
What did it likely produce/behave like?
Granulosa cell tumor - tumor cells arranged in sheets punctuated by small follicle like structures (Exner-bodies).
Might produce large amounts of estrogens and behave like low-grade malignancies.
Your female patient comes in with a hard lump below the nipple and thinks cancer. Based on the biopsy, what do they have?
Duct Ectasia, likely d/t Plasma cell mastitis
What type of change to the breast tissue is depicted here?
What is shown in each image A-C?
Fibrocystic change
A. Clustered rounded calcifications seen on radiograph
B. cysts filled with dark turbid fluid contents
C. Cysts lined by apocrine cells with round nuclei and abundant granular cytoplasm. (note the luminal calcifications which form on secretory debris)
