Q

why did the World Disarmament Conference not come to any agreement?

A
  • France, Poland, and Czechoslovakia objected due to fears of potential German invasion
  • others refused to disarm to the same extent as Germany under the TOV
  • Germany withdrew from the LON.
    • caused nations to put their interests ahead of world disarmament and collective security bc they felt that with Germany withdrawing anyone could do whatever they want

Q

what were the impacts of the Abyssinian Crisis?

A
  • news of the Hoare-Laval Pact came out, damaged the reputation of the LON cus they weren’t able to act on the situation like they were supposed to (to resolve international disputes without going into war)
  • the LON instead had a secret plan to offer Benito Mussolini most of Abyssinian in return for a truce in the Italy Ethiopian War
  • B+F also didn’t do anyt cus they alr had a good rls with Italy and didnt want to do anyt to worsen the rls
  • all this led to Hitler concluding that the LON would not be able to hinder Germanys plan of expansion
