Hip ROM Flashcards
Hip extension: Goniometer
SA: lateral midline of pelvis and trunk
A: greater trochanter of femur
MA: lateral midline of femur toward lateral femoral epicondyle
Performed in prone
Hip flexion: Goniometer
SA: lateral midline of pelvis and trunk
A: greater trochanter of femur
MA: lateral midline of femur toward lateral femoral epicondyle
Performed in supine
Hip abduction: Goniometer
SA: toward contralateral ASIS
A: ipsilateral ASIS
MA: anterior midline of ipsilateral femur, using midline of patella as reference
Performed in supine
Hip adduction: Goniometer
SA: toward contralateral ASIS
A: ipsilateral ASIS
MA: anterior midline of femur, using midline of patella as reference
Hip lateral rotation with hip flexed: Goniometer
SA: perpendicular to floor
A: midpoint of patella
MA: anterior midline, along tibial crest
Performed sitting: internally rotate leg
Hip medial rotation with hip flexed: Goniometer
SA: perpendicular to floor
A: midpoint of patella
MA: anterior midline of tibia, along tibial crest
Performed sitting, externally rotate leg
Hip lateral rotation with hip flexed: inclinometer
On medial aspect of lower leg, proximal to the medial malleolus. Ensure that the inclinometer is set to 0 degrees once it is positioned on patient
Performed in sitting, internally rotate leg
Hip lateral rotation with the hip extended: Goniometer
- SA: perpendicular to floor
- A: midpoint of patella
- MA: anterior midline of tibia, along tibial crest
Performed in prone, flex knee to 90 degrees and then internally rotate leg
Hip medial rotation with hip extended: Goniometer
- SA: perpendicular to floor
- A: midpoint of patella
- MA: anterior midline of tibia, along tibial crest
Performed in prone, flex knee to 90 degrees and then externally rotate leg
Hip lateral rotation with hip extended: inclinometer
On lateral aspect of lower leg, proximal to the lateral malleolus. Ensure that the inclinometer is set to 0 degrees once it is positioned on patient
Performed in prone, leg flexed to 90 degrees
Hip medial rotation with hip extended: inclinometer
On medial aspect of lower leg, proximal to the medial malleolus. Ensure that the inclinometer is set to 0 degrees once it is positioned on patient
Performed in prone, leg flexed to 90 degrees
