Hip Resurfacing Flashcards
1
Q
What patients is hip resurfacing indicated in?
A
1) patients with proximal femoral deformity making total hip arthroplasty difficult
2) patients with high risk of sepsis due to prior infection or immunosuppression
3) patients with a neuromuscular diagnosis
best outcomes in younger males with good bone stock
2
Q
What is the most common cause of early revision surgery (
A
Periprosthetic femoral neck fx
3
Q
What are absolute and relative contraindications to hip resurfacing?
A
absolute:
bone stock deficiency of the femoral head or neck (e.g., cystic degeneration of the femoral head)
abnormal acetabular anatomy (small)
relative: coxa vara increased risk for neck fractures significant leg length discrepancies (resurfacing does not allow for leg length corrections) female gender (controversial)
