Hip, Pelvis, Thigh-Osteology Flashcards
Innominate Bone
“Nameless bone” the pelvis
Pelvis consists of what 3 bones
ilium, ischium, and pubis
Anterior-superior iliac spine
ASIS, anterior tip or iliac crest
Posterior-superior iliac spine
PSIS, posterior tip of the iliac crest
Greater sciatic notch
semicicular notch between PIIS and the ischial spine. Space for sciatic nerve to exit the pelvis
Sciatic foramen
Sacrospinous & sacrotuberous ligamentsconvert the greater sciatic notch to the sciatic foramen
Iliac fossa
Concave anterior surface of the ilium
Ischial tuberosity
bumpy posterior projection, attachment for 3 of 4 hamstrings.”Sit bones”.
Pubic symphysis
Relatively immobile joint. Anterior joining of pubis bones.
Rami
Superior and inferior arms of the pubis. Join anteriorly at the pubic symphysis.
Obturator foramen
Circular opening formed by the pubic rami.
Acetabulum
Deep cup-shaped concave structure of pelvis that encloses the head of the femur.
Lunate surface
Horseshoe shaped surface of the acetabulum. Articulates with the femoral head.
Greater trochanter
Large lateral bony projection from the proximal femur.
Lesser trochanter
Sharp posterior medial bone projection. Insertion for iliopsoas muscle.
