Exposure factors and image critique
Hip AP
Position:
- Ischial spine align with pelvic rim
- Obturator foramen foramen is open
- Femoral neck not foreshortened
- Greater trochanter is shown laterally while lesser trochanter is superimposed by femoral neck
Area:
-Proximal third of femur, acetabulum, obturator foramen and part of ilium
Hip Lateral
Position:
-Lesser trochanter is shown medially while greater trochanter is superimposed by femoral neck
Area:
-Proximal third of femur, acetabulum, obturator foramen and part of ilium
Pelvis AP
Position:
- Sacrum and coccyx align with symphysis pubis
- Obturator foramina are open and uniform in size
- Femoral neck not foreshortened
- Iliac wings are symmetrical
- Greater trochanter is shown laterally while lesser trochanter is superimposed by femoral neck
Area:
-Iliac crests, proximal fourth of femur and surrounding soft tissues
Pelvis Inlet
Position:
- Bony pelvic brim is not superimposed
- Inferior and superior pubic rami are superimposed
Area:
-Iliac crests, proximal fourth of femur and surrounding soft tissues
Pelvis Outlet
Position:
- Inferior and superior pubic rami are not foreshortened
- Pubic and ischial bones are magnified and superimposed over sacrum
- Obturator foramina are symmetrical
Area:
-Iliac crests, proximal fourth of femur and surrounding soft tissues
Pelvis Judet (RPO)
Position:
- Right anterior rim of acetebulum and posterior ilioschial column are shown
- Right iliac wing is flattened
- Left obturator foramen and iliopectineal line are shown
SI joints PA
Position:
- Medial sacral crest align with symphysis pubis
- Symphysis pubis superimposed over inferior sacral segments
- Sacrum is equidistant from lateral wall of pelvic rim
- SI joints not foreshortened
Area:
-SI joints, 1st to 4th sacral segments
SI joints AP oblique
Position:
- Sacrum and ileum are superimposed
- SI joints are open
Area:
-SI joint, sacral ala and ilium
