Hip Ligaments of the Pelvis and Capsule Flashcards
Sacrospinous Ligament (of the pelvis)
ischial spine (anterior)
-sacrum lateral border
-coccyx
turns greater sciatic notch to foramen
Sacrotuberous Ligament (of the pelvis)
ischial tuberosity (posterior) - lateral sacrum - coccyx - PSIS, PIIS turns lesser sciatic notch into foramen
Sacroiliac Ligament (of the pelvis)
ilium
- sacrum
supports sacroiliac joint
Iliolumbar Ligament (of the pelvis)
transverse process of L5
- iliac crest
- (sacroiliac ligament)
Inguinal Ligament (of the pelvis)
ASIS
- pubic tubercle
most common location for hernia’s
Iliofemoral Ligament (capsule)
“Y” lig - thickest, strongest
AIIS + acetabalum
- greater trochanter of femur
Iliofemoral USE
- stabilizes capsule anteriorly
- prevents hyperextension, excessive lateral rotation
Pubofemoral Ligament (capsule)
pubis
- neck of femur
Pubofemoral USE
- stabilizes capsule inferiorly
- prevents excessive hip extension, lateral rotation, abduction
Ischiofemoral Ligament
posterior acetabalum
- anterior neck of femur
- greater trochanter
Ischiofemoral USE
- prevents excessive hip extension, medial rotation
- stabilizes capsule superiorly, posteriorly
