Hip Joint + Hip Flexors + Extensors Flashcards
How do you palpate the hip joint?
Hip Joint cannot be palpated only surface marked
How do you surface mark the hip joint?
- Find ASIS
- Ask patient to find Pubic tubercle
- find MIDPOINT
- go laterally 2cm 45°
What is the groin triangle?
draw if available
What are the hip flexor muscles?
- Tensor Fascia Lata
- Rectus Femoris
- Ilio
- Psoas
- Sartorious
TRIPS
Tensor Fascia Lata
Origin- Illiac crest / ASIS
insertions - inserts into iliotibial tract
Rectus Femoris
Origin
* straight head - Anterior Inferior Illiac Spine
* Reflectibe head - Acetabulum
insertions - inserts onto the patella via the quadriceps femoris tendon… joins to tibeal tuberosity
Illiacus
origin - inside of ilium (ILIAC FOSSA)
merges with PSOAS MAJOR
insetions - lesser trachantor
Psoas Major
origins - lumbar spine (lower 6 vertebra)
insertions- lesser trachantor
Sartorius
origins - Antertior Superior Illiac Spine
insertions - Pes Anserine (Medial Tibeal Condyle )
flexing + lateral rotation
hip + knee flex
how do you palpate the TFL
- find ASIS
- walk fingers back to IC
- run down side of thigh
- medially rotate
how do you palpate the sartorious
- supine position
- knee into flexion
- cross knee over
- apply pressure to knee as they abbduct
What are the Hip Extensor muscles?
- Gluteus maximus
- Adductor Magnus
- Hamstrings
Glute Max
origins - posterior surface of the ilium (also attaches to sacrum+coccyx)
insertion - femoral shaft (gluteal tuberosity)
Hamstrings
origin- ischial tuberosity
insertions
biceps femoris- laterally inserts head of the fibula
semimembranosus + semitendinous - medially insert on the tibial condyle
