What are the commonly effected areas for a strain
Quadriceps
Hamstrings

What are the treatment aims for a strain
- Reduce pain and swelling
- Improve flexibility and muscle condition
- Restore muscular strength
- Return to full strength
What are the treatments for a muscle strain
Healing: ice, heat and sports massage (acute 3 days)
Stretching: static then sports specific (subacute 0-3weeks)
Strengthening: gradual load, static then sports specific (3 weeks to 2 years)
What causes greater trochanteric pain syndrome?
A disorder to the:
Trochanteric bursa
Gluteus medius and or medius tendons
Iliotibial band
What can GTS be a combination of?
Gluteal tendinopathy
Bursitis surrounding the hip
What are the treatments for GTS?
Strenghten the stabilisers gluteals (miniband hip bridges) Restore flexibility (lunges, 90/90) graded return to sport

pain on hip flexion
strengthen hip flexors (iliopsoas, rec fem, sartorius
Adductor Related pain
Adductor tenderness
hip adductors: adductor longus, brevis and gracilis
massage surounding muscles avoid fem triangle
Inguinal related
Inguinal canal tender+ pain
no palpable inguinal hernia
pain with abdominal tests, pain with cough/sneeze
sterngthen adductors, abductors and abdominals
what is myositis ossification
Development of bony substance when tissue is mobilised too early or agressively
What is the treatment of acute quadriceps contusion?
Reduce pain bleeding and swelling
PRICE cryotherapy and compression wraps
twice a day 15mins
anti- inflammatories 3-7 days only
what is the treatment for sub- acute quadriceps contusion?
Stretch+strengthen isometric (spanish squat, quad extension holds) Isometric (kneeling up and down, squats) isokenetic (cycling) gentle quad stretch 3-5 times a day maintain fitness with cycling speed recovery with massage
what are the sympotms of GTS
Trendelendburgs sign (weak hip muscles) pain in: side lying, sitting crossed legged, prolonged wieght bearing, repetitive motions
