Hip Goni Alignment Flashcards
Hip Flexion
fulcrum: lateral aspect of the hip joint (greater trochanter)
proximal arm: lateral midline of pelvis
distal arm: lateral midline of femur (lateral epicondyle)
Hip Extension
same as hip flexion
Hip Abduction
fulcrum: anterior superior iliac spine (ASIS) of the extremity
proximal arm: imaginary horizontal line extending from one ASIS to the other
distal arm: anterior midline of the femur, using the midline of the patella for reference (palpate midpoint between the femoral epicondyles to confirm that the midline of the patella is not displaced medially or laterally.
Hip Adduction
same as hip abduction
Hip Medial (Internal) Rotation
fulcrum: the anterior aspect of the patella
proximal arm: perpendicular to the floor or parallel to supporting surface
distal arm: aligned with the anterior midline of the lower leg
** towel should be placed under thigh of the leg that is being tested**
Hip Lateral (External) Rotation
same as hip medial (internal rotation)
** towel should be placed under thigh of the leg that is being tested**
