hip bony landmarks Flashcards
anterior pelvis
- origin for hip flexors
anterior iliac crest
origin tensor fasciae latae
anterior superior iliac spine / ASIS
origin sartorius
anterior inferior iliac spine
origin rectus femoris
lateral pelvis
- origin for hip abductors
just below iliac crest
origin gluteus medius and minimus
medially
- origin for hip adductors
pubis and its inferior ramus
origin adductor magnus, adductor longus, adductor brevis, pectineus and gracilis
posteriorly
- origin for hip extensors
posterior iliac crest and posterior sacrum and coccyx
- origin gluteus maximus
posteroinferiorly
- origin for hip extensors
ischial tuberosity
- origin hamstrings
proximal thigh
- insertion for short muscles of hip
greater trochanter
origin gluteal muscles and most of the six deep external rotators
lesser trochanter
origin iliopsoas
proximal thigh
- origin for 3 knee extensors
anteriorly [proximal thigh]
- origin three vasti muscles of quadriceps [action at knee]
linea aspera
origin hip adductors
greater trochanter
outside knob at top of femur [can palpate]
proximal tibia or fibula
- insertion for remainder of hip muscles
patella
- insertion for all 4 quadriceps muscles
lesser trochanter
inner knob at top of femur, smaller
upper anteromedial tibial surface just below medial condyle after crossing knee posteromedially
- insertion sartorius, gracilis, and semitendinosus
posteromedially on medial tibial condyle
insertion semimembranosus
laterally, primarily on fibula head with some fibers attaching on lateral tibial condyle
- insertion biceps femoris
anterolaterally on Gerdy’s tubercle of tibia
insertion iliotibial tract of tensor fasciae latae
