Hip and posterior thigh Flashcards
What are the hamstring muscles of the posterior compartment of the thigh?
Semimembranosus muscle
Semitendinosus muscle
Biceps femoris
What is the proximal attachment of the semimembranosus muscle?
Ischial tuberosity
What is the distal attachment of the semimembranosus muscle?
Posterior portion of medial tibial condyle
What is the action of the semimembranosus muscle?
- Flexion of knee
- Extension of hip
- Medial rotation of tibia (esp. when knee flexed)
What is the innervation of the semimembranosus muscle?
Tibial nerve: L5,S1,S2
What is the proximal attachment of the semitendinosus muscle?
Ischial tuberosity
What is the distal attachment of the semitendinosus muscle?
Superomedial tibial shaft
What is the action of the semitendinosus muscle?
- Flexion of knee
- Extension hip
- Medial rotation of tibia (esp. when knee flexed)
What is the innervation of the semitendinosus muscle?
Tibial nerve: L5,S1,S2
What is the proximal attachment of the biceps femoris?
- Long head: Ischial tuberosity
- Short head: linea aspera and lateral supracondylar ridge of femur
What is the distal attachment of the biceps femoris?
- Fibula head
- Lateral tibial condyle
What is the action of the biceps femoris?
- Flexion of knee
- Lateral rotation tibia
- Extension of hip (long head only)
What is the innervation of the biceps femoris?
- Long head: tibial nerve (L5,S1,S2)
- Short head: common peroneal nerve (L5,S1,S2)
