Hip Anatomy Flashcards
Name the flexors of the hip
Ilipsoas
Pectineus
Sartorius
Rectus Femoris
Name the borders and structures of adductor/hunters canal?
Anteriomedial - Sartorius
Laterally - Vastus Medialis
Posteriorly - Adductor Longus
What are the abductors of the hip?
Gluteus Medius - Gluteal surface of the ilium, inserts into the GT
Gluteus Minimus - Gluteal surface of the ilium, inserts into the GT
Tensor Fascia Lata - Anterolateral aspect of iliac crest, inserts into the iliotibial band.
What attaches to the greater trochanter.
Gluteus medius, gluteus minimus, piriformis.
What are the adductors of the hip?
Adductor longus
Adductor magnus
Gracilius
Adductor brevis
Obturator externus
What is the function of the iliotibial band?
Originates from the iliac tubrecule, inserts into the lateral femoral condyle.
Acts as a lateral stabaliser of the knee joint, assists the hip in extension, abduction and external rotation.
What are the primary extensors of the hip?
Gluteus maximus
Bicep femoris
Semimembranous
Semitendinous
What are the static and dynamic stabalisers of the hip?
Static stabalisers:
Ball and socket joint
Acetabular Labrum
Iiliofemoral
Pubofemoral
Ischiofemoral
Dynamic:
Surrounding muscles,
Quadratis femoris
Piraformis
Gluteus medius
Gluteus minimus
