the social class organization in ancient India, very rigid
Jatis
jobs that Indians are born into within the caste system, there are 1000s of them

the lowest in the class and were considered excluded from society
Dharma
one’s duty or how well you can perform your jati
Karma
cause and effect of your soul, every action has consequences
Good Karma
could free you from samsara
Samsara
the cycle of birth, death, and rebirth and ends when the soul escapes this cycle to be reunited with Brahman
Monism
All existing things come from one source

the belief that a persons soul is reborn into a new body after death
Pilgrimage
a journey to a holy place

founded by Siddhartha to reach enlightenment which is happiness from truth + knowledge

the state of ideal happiness and peace

a person who gives up worldly pleasures

a set of beliefs to follow if you are buddhists, known as the middle path
Buddha
sanskrit for “enlightened”, the name given to Siddhartha
Four Noble Truths
the 4 principles that tell a person about suffering
Enlightenment
the state of gaining spiritual insight and finding universal truth, the goal in Buddhism
