He is the first living thing, he has 4 heads and 4 arms which represent the 4 Hindu holy books.Brahma can populate the world after Shiva has destroyed it ready for new creation.

Vishnu is the preserver.
He protects the Earth from danger, he has a blue complexion representing the sea and sky (the infinite).
He carries a lotus flower, symbolizing beauty, truth and purity
He holds a conch shell, symbolizing creativity
He holds a spinning discus, a weapon for the mind

Shiva is the destroyer.
Shiva has 3 eyes, the middle eye sees the truth. He can also destroy all evil and sin
From his hair flows the Ganga (the holiest of all rivers)
From his drum comes the sound of Aum (the notes or vibrations of the universe
Shiva’s trident represents the Trimurti
