Hills Road Flashcards
Do animal cells have a regular or irregular shape?
Irregular
Does a plant cell have a regular or irregular shape?
Regular
Structures in an animal cell:
- cytoplasm
- vesicle
- ribosome
- nucleus
- chromatin
-nucleolus - Golgi apparatus
- mitochondrion
- Rough endoplasmic recticulum
- plasma membrane
Function of plasmodesma?
It allows cell-to-cell transport and communication, from the cytoplasm of once cell to another
Function of a cell wall?
To support the cell. It gives the cell structure which prevents it from changing shape
Function of chloroplast?
Converts light energy into chemical energy stored in organic compound such as sugars
Function of rough endoplasmic reticulum?
To produce proteins for the rest of the cell to functioned, contains ribosomes on it
Function of cytoplasm?
Maintains optimum environment in the cell. Helps to move materials e.g. hormones around the cell and dissolves cellular waste
Function of vesicle?
Organises cellular substances. Involved in metabolism, transport buoyancy control and enzyme storage, acts as a chemical reaction chambers
Function of ribosome?
Receives genetic information from DNA. In the form or messenger RNA , reads it and uses the instructions stored in it to make proteins
Function of chromatin?
Package DNA. Into a smaller volume to fit in the cell strengthen the DNA. To allow mitosis and meiosis, and serve as a mechanism to control expression
Function of nucleolus?
To produce and assemble the cells ribosomes, and where ribosomal RNA genes are transcribed
Function of Golgi apparatus?
Transporting, modifying and packaging proteins and lipids into vesicles for delivery to targeted destinations
Function of mitochondrion?
Produce energy through cellular respiration
Function of plasma membrane?
Provides protection for a cell and to transport nutrients into the cell and toxic chemicals out the cell
