Word choice:
+ state that it is word choice

What is the purpose of a list?
To emphasise the number or variety of something
What is the purpose of parenthesis
To add extra information that if not present, would still allow the sentence to be grammatically correct and make sense.
What is the purpose of a colon?
To introduce a list, argument, opinion or quotation.
What is the purpose of a semi-colon?
To separate opposing arguments or clauses as well as introducing new ones.
What is the effect of a rhetorical question?
To force the reader to question their mindset or views, creating a matter-of-fact, superior tone.
What is the effect of a minor sentence?
The contents of the sentence are emphasised, often by creating a matter-of-fact tone.
