What is a Mass?

A

A large scale, sacred work sung in Latin for solo singers, chorus and orchestra. The five main sections are Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, Agnus Dei.

A

A

Creating tension by prolonging a consonant note while the underlying harmony changes, normally on a strong beat

A

An increase in the length of notes. The music will sound slower when imitated.

A

An aria in Ternary Form (ABA) used in opera an oratorio in the 17th and 18th centuries. The third section is not written out but the instruction Da Capo from the beginning is given instead.

A

A decrease in the length of notes. The music will sound faster when imitated or repeated.

A

A story from the Bible set to music for soloists, chorus and orchestra. It may include recitatives , arias, duets and chorus. It is performed on stage without acting, costumes or stage design.
