High Yield Concepts Flashcards
What is cimetidine and why is it important?
It’s an OTC H2 blocker and a potent inducer of cyp activity. This means there will be significant interaction with other cyp-metabolized drugs, including warfarin.
Why is rifampin & rifabutin important?
It’s a CYP enzyme inducer so it will interact with other CYP-metabolized drugs.
With inflammatory liver disease, what happens to factor VIII?
it goes up
What is the management/treatment of ITP?
steroids, and/or IVIG vs. anti-D, and/or platelet transfusion; splenectomy and/or chemo/rituximab if worsening/relapsing
What drug(s) will Ritonavir be used to boost and how does this work?
lopinavir and darunavir; works because ritonavir will inhibit CYP and that means that CYP won’t metabolize the other drugs so they remain active in the serum a longer time
What drug(s) will Cobicistat be used to boost and how does this work?
Cobicistat raises serum concentration of CYP3A4 substrates such as atazanavir, lopinavir, and darunavir by inhibiting CYP
All but one HAART drug is given orally. What drug is not given orally and how is it administered?
Enfuvirtide - given SC
What HAART drugs should alcohol be avoided if taking?
Abacavir and didanosine
