High Order Function Flashcards
Constellation of signs and symptoms frequently associated with each other and suggest that the signs and symptoms have a common origin
Syndrome
Syndrome defined with unilateral Ptosis, Miosis, Anhidrosis and Enophthalmos
Horner’s Syndrome
Enophthalmos
sunken eyes (seen in Horner’s Syndrome)
Syndrome characterized with vertigo, nausea, hoarseness, dysphagia, Horner’s and Ipsilateral ataxia
Lateral Medullary Syndrome
(CT/MRI) are quick, easy and can be done with or without IODINATED contrast
CT
(CT/MRI) take longer and require that patients lie still in a small place; great detail and can be done with or without GADOLINIUM contrast
MRI
The portion of the cerebral cortex outside the primary areas; essential for mental functions that are more complex than purely detecting basic dimensions of sensory stimulation; example is the visual cortex sending information to other areas for further analysis
Association Cortex
Major fiber pathway that links one hemisphere with the other; develops around 5th week of gestation (similar to face) and front to back
Corpus Callosum
When does the Corpus Callosum develop during gestation?
Corpus Callosum
Possible etiologies for abnormal Corpus Callosum development
Prenatal infections (Rubella)
Chromosomal abnormalities (Trisomy 8 and 18)
Toxins (Fetal Alcohol Spectrum)
Blockage of Growth (cysts)
Patients with seizures could potentially have what procedure to reduce seizure activity
Corpus Callosum transection
The (left/right) hemisphere is better with language, math and logic
Left
The (left/right) hemisphere is better with SIMPLE language and grammar, spatial tasks, face recognition, visual imagery and music
Right
