hierachy Flashcards

1
Q

iago: ‘sblood

A

first ever line from iago is slang; making himself more relatable and down to earth to contemporary audiences juxtaposing othellos romantic verses

creates a sense of rooting for iago due to a more relatable dialogue, making you feel either with or above him rather than othellos slightly pretenious lyrcisism

what does the military setting emphasise

A

the more ambigious/subtle class hierachy is made definitive and labelled within a military setting, makes the heirachy startingly obvious as well as everyones places in it (reflecting society but more emphasised and structured)

Q

iagos place in heirachy compared to most other characters

A

iago is not of noble birth or particularly high, despite being a self proclaimed talented soldier he is still relatively low ranking compared to othello and cassio, and he would likely never make it that high without his meddling

Q

cassio about desdemona

“our great captains captain”

A

reflects that desdemona and othello are both well matched in passion and boldness, and relfects the power of love to weaken othello for desdemona to ascend

but danger is suggested when othello is no longer in control of himself, with his passion and love instead taking control
