16
Q

Amiodarone adverse effects

A

-most important = dose-related pulmonary toxicity
-hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism

17
Q

Amiodarone drug interactions

A

-inhibits several CYP450 enzymes
-digoxin, statins, and warfarin

*contains iodine

18
Q

What is the main difference between Amiodarone and Dronedarone

A

Dronedarone does not contain iodine, which eliminates many of the toxicity issues associated with Amiodarone

19
Q

Dronedarone interactions and contraindications

A

-substrate and inhibitor of CYP3A4 - avoid co-administration with other potent CYP3A4 inhibitors

-black box warning against use in acute decompensated or class 4 heart failure

20
Q

Dofetilide (Tikosyn) contraindications

A

-baseline QTc > 450 ms
-bradycardia <50 bpm
-hypokalemia

21
Q

Special consideration when initiating Defetilide

A

Must be initiated in the hospital for CrCl monitoring
