Xi Jiao (rhino horn)
Strongest Herb that Cools the Blood & Stops Bleeding
- Relieves Fire Toxicity: fever, erythema, purpura (bleeding under the skin)
.5 to 1.5 g (in powder form)
Shui niu jiao is used instead (milder) 15-30gm- shred and cook first
Sheng Di Huang (dried rehmannia root)
Nourishes Yin, Generates Fluids: yin deficiency with heat; injury to fluids: dry mouth, low grade fever, constipation, throat pain

Xian di huang ( fresh, not dried, rehmannia root)- more bitter than sweet, very cold- stronger to clear heat and cool blood, and generate fluid; weaker to nourish yin (20-60gm or grind for juice)
Xuan Shen
Nourishes Yin; moistens dryness: sequelae of warm febrile disease and Lung Yin Deficiency: dry cough and throat, blood tinged sputum; constipation; irritability
- Relieves Toxicity: sore throat, mumps, carbuncles

Mu Dan Pi
Cools Blood: stops bleeding (epistaxis, hematemesis, hemoptysis)
Clears Deficient Heat: steaming bone disorders, yin def heat after fever: most suitable in absence of sweating
*Invigorates Blood; dispels blood stasis: blood stasis with amenorrhea; traumatic injury; intestinal abscesses
Clears LV Fire: headache, eye pain, irritabilty, hypertension

Chi Shao
Invigorates blood; dispels blood stasis: dysmenorrhea, amenorrhea, pain and swelling with traumatic injuries, abdominal pain
6-15 g
Zi Cao
Relieves Fire Toxicity; clears damp heat from the skin: skin lesions, vaginal itching; burns
